3/18 Sunday | Sensoji Temple <Kinryu no Mai> (the dance of the golden dragon)
The official name of Sensoji Temple is Kinryuzan Sensoji, and this is said to come from the legend that a golden dragon descended from heaven (kinryu = gold + dragon). When the Showa Hondo (main temple hall of Sensoji) was completed in 1958 a dance of the golden dragon was dedicated to the temple, and the performance has become a traditional ceremonial event ever since, dedicated to the temple every October and March. The golden dragon is about 15 meters long and 80 kilograms in weight, and the sight of it dancing in the open space is truly spectacular.

3/12 Monday – 3/20 Tuesday | The 4th Japan Fashion Week in TOKYO
”Japan Fashion Week” started as a event only a few years ago with a number of designers, apparel brands and fabric makers getting together to promote Japanese fashion to the world. It welcomes its 4th holding this year, and the event is gradually becoming acknowledged within and outside of Japan as a significant fashion event.

This year the event moves to the “hidden” center of fashion, Nihombashi. Latest Japanese fashion tends to be associated with locations such as Aoyama and Ginza, yet Nihombashi cannot be neglected as the town has numerous wholesalers that continue from decades or even centuries ago, and is rich in textile and fashion materials. The entire town of Nihombashi prepares special events in relation to hosting “Japan Fashion Week”.

”Tokyo Collection”, the program of the event, is joined by 37 Japanese fashion brands proudly presenting the modes of Autumn/Winter 07-08. Unfortunately, only those in fashion business including buyers from department stores or boutiques and journalists as well as invited guest are allowed to have a live glimpse of the collection. Yet the show will be shown outside of the venue on a large screen and will be distributed as movies on the website starting the next day of the event, so those who are keen on checking out the fashion trends for next autumn/winter don’t miss this chance!
