About "Mamemaki"



"Setsubun & Mamemaki"

"Setsubun" is the name for the eve of the first day of each season. Therefore there are four "Setsubun" each year, however "Setsubun" usually indicates February 3rd, the eve of the first day of Spring.
The term "Setsubun" also means to divide seasons.

The event held on this spring "Setsubun" is mamemaki.
For mamemaki, you disperse roasted soy beans, and eat the soy beans (not the dispersed ones!) the number of your age.

The dispersal of the soy beans means to hit and drive off the demon to pray for sound health.
