" The Inseperable Bond between
Kagamimochi and Mold "
Kagamimochi is a special kind of rice cake decorated for New Year as an offering to the gods.
It usually consists of two big round mochi in different sizes.
There is a custom to cut and eat the kagamimochi on January 11th called "Kagamibiraki".
However, unfortunately, in most cases mold gets on the mochi before the day of Kagamibiraki.
Especially since the heating systems became more efficient than before, mold gets on fairly quickly and prevents people from eating the mochi on the day.
Some people decorate plastic-made kagamimochi instead of a real one these days.
